Introduction
NAT00100 captures a student’s prior educational achievements before they commence training with your RTO. While this file is relatively small, it plays an important role in national reporting, pathway analysis, and data integrity. When NAT00100 does not align with client data in NAT00080, it can trigger AVETMISS validation errors.
Like NAT00090, NAT00100 is a conditional file and is only required when specific client data triggers its inclusion.
What Is NAT00100?
NAT00100 is the Prior Educational Achievement file in AVETMISS reporting. It records the types of education a student has completed before enrolling, including school-level education, VET qualifications, and higher education. Prior education completed in Australia or overseas may be reported where applicable.
A single student may have more than one prior educational achievement. Where AVETMISS rules allow, this means multiple NAT00100 records can exist for the same student.
When NAT00100 Is Required
NAT00100 is required only when at least one student has the Prior Educational Achievement Flag set to ‘Y’ in the Client file (NAT00080). When this flag is set, at least one corresponding NAT00100 record must exist for that student.
If no students have the flag set to ‘Y’, the NAT00100 file may contain no records. However, the file itself must still be included in the AVETMISS submission structure.
Key Data Recorded in NAT00100
Each NAT00100 record links a student to a specific prior education outcome. Two fields are mandatory for every record: the Client Identifier and the Prior Educational Achievement Identifier. Both fields must be present, valid, and correctly aligned with the corresponding student record in NAT00080.
Common NAT00100 Validation Errors
Validation issues in NAT00100 most commonly occur when conditional rules are not followed or when data does not align with NAT00080. Errors can arise if duplicate prior education records exist for the same student, if NAT00100 records are reported when the Prior Educational Achievement Flag is not set, or if student identifiers do not match exactly between files. Invalid or missing prior education codes are also a frequent cause of errors.
Why Accuracy in NAT00100 Matters
Although NAT00100 contains relatively few records, errors in this file can prevent an AVETMISS submission from validating successfully. Inaccurate prior education data can also affect reporting quality and lead to unreliable analysis of student pathways. Ensuring consistency between NAT00100 and NAT00080 is essential for clean submissions and audit-ready data.
Outcome When NAT00100 Is Correct
When NAT00100 is set up correctly, prior education data aligns cleanly with client records, conditional reporting rules are met, and common validation errors are avoided. AVETMISS submissions progress more smoothly, reporting outcomes are more reliable, and audit and compliance risk is reduced.
